The festival began in 1999 as the Puchon International Student Animation Festival (PISAF), and expanded its scope in 2015 to become the Bucheon International Animation Festival (BIAF). The wordmark was created to reflect this evolution.

Delicate attention was paid to the spacing and height of the letters, while the letter ‘A’—symbolizing animation at the heart of the festival—was designed to embody openness and inclusivity.
