Program Note
Time has passed since the Space Wars and the Gundam have been forgotten. The Earth Federation collapses in the face of an aristocratic uprising in Cosmo Babylonia. Unable to stand by, a young boy named Seabook, who has a less-than-stellar reputation, joins the fight aboard the prototype F91. Mobile Suit Gundam creator TOMINO Yoshiyuki, character designer YASUHIKO Yoshikazu, and mechanical designer OKAWARA Kunio reunite for a new generation of work. Narratively, it stands out from TOMINO's previous works for its positive portrayal of the meaning of family. The film's significance also lies in the changes it introduced to the already established Gundam universe and narrative. Tomino's next film, Mobile Suit V Gundam, will conclude the existing universe called the “Space Century,” and mark the beginning of an era in which various directors will be free to create their own worlds and stories using Gundam.
