Synopsis
This feature-length animation tells the story of Sori, who, after being bullied for helping a friend, transfers to a rural school and discovers a letter from Hoyeon, who used to sit in her seat. Your Letter opens with a wide-angle shot of Seoul in early summer. Unlike the webtoon's strong surreal atmosphere, the time and space are expressed realistically while still being distinctly Korean. The transparent and delicate drawing of light is vivid, and the story flows with fantastical elements, such as the witch's setting and Sori's imaginary space, maintaining tension and curiosity about the letter's mystery and Hoyeon's condition until the very end. The relationships and episodes between Sori and other characters are also faithfully and coherently developed. The expression of the passage of time from summer to fall is excellent, and the music, following the flow of the story, is refreshing and clean overall. The relationships and episodes between Sori and the other characters are developed in a solid and well-structured way. The transition from summer to autumn is beautifully portrayed, and the music is refreshing and clean, perfectly matching the mood of the film. Lee Suhyun of AKMU, who voices Sori, adds an extra sparkle to the character. It was the opening film of BIAF2024 and won the Film Jury Prize, COCOMICS Music Prize, and Technical Prize. (Eugene KIM)
