Synopsis

The Prince of Egypt adapts the bible of Exodus, focusing on the conflict between Moses and Ramses, reinterpreting the religious narrative through animation. Directors including Brenda Chapman blend digital and 2D animation to create grand visuals like the pyramid construction and Red Sea scenes. The film balances personal internal struggles with collective liberation themes. Voice acting by Val Kilmer, Ralph Fiennes, and Sandra Bullock adds realism, while music by Stephen Schwartz and Hans Zimmer enhances dramatic tension. The Oscar-winning song When You Believe, famously performed by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, helped popularize the film. The Prince of Egypt is praised for transcending genre limits, expanding artistic and narrative possibilities. (Eugene KIM)
