BIAF Special, Macross - A Composition of Songs, Love and Mecha

BIAF2023 has revealed its first special, which will be a landmark moment for fans of the decades-spanning legendary Macross - A Composition of Songs, Love and Mecha Macross Series. Created by BIGWEST and Studio Nue with Shoji Kawamori, who served as the chief director of and , three historic theater-released editions of Macross will be screened at BIAF along with Shoji Kawamori's Master Class on October 21, 2023.

A.D. 2040, former childhood friends Isamu Dyson and Guld Bowman find themselves pitted against each other as rival test pilots in a competition to decide the next generation of variable mecha fighters. The two must also deal with their own unresolved history with mutual love interest, Myung Fang Lone, who has returned to planet Eden as the manager of the AI singing sensation Sharon Apple. When the virturoid’s advanced artificial intelligence gains consciousness, the three must face their turbulent past and come together as Sharon Apple becomes self-aware and takes control of the Macross battlefortress itself!

A.D. 2059, the Macross Frontier fleet is on its way towards the center of the galaxy when it encounters a hostile alien species known as the Vajra. Sheryl Nome’s concert becomes ground zero where both flight school trainee Alto Saotome and aspiring singer Ranka Lee are caught up in the attack. Shocked by the experience, Alto joins the Strategic Military Services (S.M.S) to protect his friends and soon finds himself piloting the latest state-of-the-art variable fighter. When Sheryl learns that her home, the Macross Galaxy fleet, has been attacked, she calls the S.M.S into action and Macross Frontier becomes the stage for an epic showdown!

Sheryl Nome remains on board the Macross Frontier as her health rapidly begins to deteriorate. Meanwhile, Ranka Lee has become a singing sensation in her own right and prepares for her debut concert. Alto Saotome is injured in combat and the two songstresses rush to his side just as the architects behind the Vajra attacks are uncovered. Now the Strategic Military Services (S.M.S) must stop the real conspirators who are controlling the Vajra, all while trying to protect their alien homeworld. The climactic finale of emotions, music and mecha action comes to a close as Alto must face one of the most important choices of his life.
